LOL Okay you know what, my friend told me to write this so uh yeah... I'm not sure how this is going to turn out but here goes anyways! XD
~~~
The bell goes, signalling our escape from this torture chamber. A sigh of relief washes over the classroom. Our teacher, Mr.Samson, gives us all the evil eye behind his glasses.
"Don't forget class, you have a 6000 word essay due on the history of the frog." He grins as we all groan and trudge out, complaining about the unfair amount of homework he always gives.
"Seriously?" Melanie shrieks. "Frogs. Of all the torturous things he could make us write about, he chose frogs!" She throws her hands in the air and bangs her head against her locker, right beside mine. I try to stifle a giggle.
"What's so bad about frogs Mel? I mean they're pretty much harmless, except for the poison ones but... You know that's not the point." I turn to her, slamming my locker shut. "At least it wasn't on oh, I don't know, snakes. Would you like that better?" She looks up at me and sighs deeply.
"Okay, whatever. I'll write the stupid report about frogs, but why does Mr.Samson have to assign the most ridiculous essays? Why do we have to write essays at all? I mean, we're in bio, what does writing essays about frogs have to do with anything?" She rolls her eyes as we head out to the car.
I giggle, and unlock my car, climbing into the drivers side. "I don't know Mel, maybe he wants us to get in touch with our inner toad before we disect one." I put on my best mad scientist impression and manage to get a laugh out of her. I start the engine and back out of the space, onto the busy freeway home. Melanie rants on about how "extremely yucky" frogs are as we endure through the horrible traffic home. Yep, just another normal day.
I drop Melanie off at her house before heading back to mine, just two blocks away. It's abnormally quiet on my street for this time. 5:27. There's usually a whoe bunch of children running around playing tag or something. I park my car in the garage and hop up the stairs. There's a rustle in the shadows and I turn around cautiously. It's just a rabbit, I think to myself. There's a lot of them in the neighbourhood, I re-assure myself.
Just as I'm about to turn the handle, the garage lights go out and a scream catches in my throat. I look around blindly in the dark, wondering what could've caused the lights to go off. I sigh in relief as the lights come back on. There's a loud crash from inside and I quickly bolt inside to find a vase knocked over. I don't have any pets or siblings, or even a house keeper for that matter. So what could've knocked it over? The wind? No, none of the windows were open. Then what...
I grab a dustpan to sweep up the pieces. Mom was going to kill me when she saw this. Who could I blame? A ghost? That's when I remembered. There's no storm going on and we've never had any power outages. The braker panel was in the garage, a few feet away from where I was standing when the power went out. So many posibilities were running through my head. There's no way that anyone could've turned off the lights unless they cut the electricity cables directly from the source. I ran outside to see that there were giant footprints on my lawn. They looked like tracks I'd never seen before, something that was a horse and a... Moose? I wasn't sure but when I walked back inside the vase was completely fixed and back where it was before. Weird, I thought. It'd been a really weird night in fact. I picked up the phone to call Melanie and see if she wanted to come over and work on the essay together. One ring.
A cold wind rushed through the house and I went to close the front door. Two rings. I turned around and walked straight into someone. Or more like, something. Three rings. "Hello?" I heard at the other end, but I couldn't respond. I was too amazed at what stood infront of me. Some sort of creature...
"Hello? Hellooo? This had better not be a prank. Luce? Is that you?" I swallowed when the creature turned around to look at me, horn at an arms length away from my face.
"Um...uh...yeah, h-hey Mel. Urr look uh, sorry but I'll call you back."
"Luce wh-" I dropped the phone. We were both staring at eachother, neither of us saying a word. Assuming this thing could talk.
Why yes, yes we can talk. We are a very intelligent species, thank you very much. I covered my mouth with my hand, holding back a scream.
"O-okay then mister... Whatever you are, so you can talk. What are you doing in my house?" It walks over to my couch as if it were a guest that had just been offered a seat.
I don't intend on staying here, so you can think of this as temporary. I am being followed, the very same person who cut your power. So, just pretend as if I wasn't here-
"Excuse me? Being followed? I'm not sure if I hit my head on something or maybe I'm dreaming, but you're taking up half the space in my living room! How can I just pretend you're not here? And what do you mean 'being followed', by who? Or actually should I say what, because you know I'm not quite sure what you are." I lower my voice because I realize I'm yelling, my heart beating a thousand beats a minute, but the weird creature, whatever it is, looked completely clam, as if this was something normal for it.
First of all, I am not an 'it', I am a Unimoose. The Unimoose clearly sees my disbelief, but it clears its throat in my head and continues.
Yes, as unorthodox as that may sound, we are a very secluded species. Well were, because as you see, I am the last of my kind from years of hunting. Now, since I'm the last one of my kind, they are tracking me down and are planning to kill me. So, as much of a game or a hoax this may seem like to you, it is in fact a very serious buisness. The Unimoose stood up and headed for the door as if to make a dramatic exit. My gaze turned to follow as I let out a breath I didn't realize I was holding.
"Okay, okay fine, maybe I don't believe you 100%, but let's just say I do. Why me? Of all the houses in the country, or heck even the world, why did you choose mine? I mean what's so special about this one, I mean besides maybe that vase you broke." I gesture over to the now, fully repaired vase that had been shattered to pieces a few minutes ago.
I'm not sure either little human. I raise my eyebrows at his use of "little human" which results in some noise of amusement from him. I was back in my homeland actually, with my best friend. We were both cornered by, well let's just call them the bad guys for now, and they were going to kill both of us. My friend told me to take his power and use it to come here with the spell that neither one of us had ever used before. It was taught to every Unimoose in case of emergency, but it took a large amount of power. Before I could even object, they already killed him. I wasn't going to let his efforts go to waste, so right before they were about to attack me, I used the spell, it was one that you couldn't control, so I really didn't have a choice in where it took me, but it took me here.
I was amazed at how much I was actually buying his story. All of this was extremely crazy and I wanted to tell him to get out of my house right away, but another part of me wanted to know the rest of the story. So, I pressed on.
"What was the spell that you used?" I asked, moving closer towards him. I thought I could actually see some sort of smile forming on his face. I was hoping you'd ask. It was a transportation spell, once said, it would take you to the safest place that you could be. He chuckled at my wide-eyed expression.
"My house? My house was the safest place that you could possibly be? Wow, there's an interesting turn of events." I let out a huge breath as I plop down on the couch. The Unimoose followed me and stood beside the couch and let me absorb all the information. Yes, I understand it's a lot to take it, but I'm here now and I'll be gone before your parents return. My parents. I quickly rushed to the window and stared in horror as they turned around the curb. I was practically jumping up and down in anticipation.
"Okay uh yeah, that's great, but unless you can magically turn invisble or something, my parents are parking in the garage right now." I bit my lip and watched his expression turn serious as well. Oh, then I guess we're in a bit of a predicament. The door handle started to rattle and I was panicking.
"Hide!" Was the only thing I could think of to shout at the moment. I shrieked and fell to the floor as the door flew open and almost took my head off. A strange figure dressed in black appeared in the doorway with two others behind him, my parents draped over their backs. The two henchmen dropped my parents to the floor and their leader cracked his neck. The Unimoose's eyes were widened as we exchanged horrified glances.
"Hello Bert." he said in a raspy voice. Then, his expression turned grim. "Let's dance."
